While most teenagers were heading down to the beach in the
week between Christmas and New Year,
Lockie has been busy preparing for his first test in Porsche Carrera Cup
car at Winton Raceway. Thanks to the
generous support of Xavier West, from Malibu Motor Sport, Lockie was able to familiarise himself with
the operation of the left hand drive Porsche racer that Xavier has been campaigning
in the Porsche GT3 Challenge during 2012.
With Xavier’s guidance, Lockie was able to come to grips with the
potent Porsche machine and by the end of the day was laying down some very respectable
lap times.

Lockie’s first impressions of the Porsche were
that it was a very well balanced car and had tons of grip and fantastic
stopping power. As it
was Lockie’s first drive in a closed car he was amazed at how hot the cabin got
even with the engine being in the rear. During the day the Porsche was all but the fastest car on the track with the exception of a Lamborghini racer being prepared for next years Australian GT Championship.
With Lockie’s sights firmly set on racing in the Carrera Cup
in 2013 he is working hard on attracting sponsors who would like to be part to
the Porsche series and take advantage of the extensive television coverage the
series gets on the 7 Network as the prestige category supporting the V8 Supercar Series.
Lockie would like to acknowledge Xavier and Scott and the
rest of the team from Malibu Motor Sport for their support organising the test
day.
