Marshall Motorsport teams up with EVOCorse

As part of an expansion of its motorsport activities, Marshall Motorsport is pleased to announce it has been appointed the Australian distributor for the EVOCorse range of competition wheels and accessories.   This arrangement followed our initial import of Formula 3 centre lock wheels which were snapped up by a number of F3 teams competing in the State and Australian Championships.   

With a longstanding involvement in Italian Motorsport EVOCorse have forged a reputation for supplying wheels of the highest quality for open wheeler, GT and touring car categories.   Building on its track success EC is now a highly regarded supplier to a number of European rally teams including the WRC entrant Prodrive.   Innovations such as the the patented EVOCorse QPS (Quick Pit Stop) captive wheel nuts are gaining wide acceptance in European gravel and tarmac rally circles offering up to a 30 second advantage when doing in-stage wheel changes.

EVOCorse has also had success in the unforgiving off road racing environment where it has become the wheel of choice for many teams and private entries in the Dakar rally, the Pharohs rally and most recently the Australasian Safari.   Marshall Motorsport has recently supplied several sets of the highly regarded Dakar Corse Zero off road competition wheel to the Melbourne base Grunt Global rally team who are putting together an impressive VW Amarok entry to tackle the Production 4WD class in this years Safari.   Grunt Global's lead driver Sam Beck has worked closely with Marshall Motorsport to ensure the wheels supplied are capable of taking on some of the toughest terrain Western Australia has to offer.  We have been able to draw on the experience the factory has had in supplying teams in the Dakar in Africa and South Americal over the past few years.

AF3 Championship Round 6 Ipswich - Action Packed

 

Formula 3 rookie Lockie Marshall returned his third podium result in as many outings with a 2nd in the National class of the 2012 AF3 Championship at Ipswich on the weekend.  Following his win in Darwin and a second place at Eastern Creek, his strong showing in Queensland  puts lockie into third place in the Forpark National class championship despite missing the first three races due to a broken wrist.

In the adrenalin charged atmosphere of the V8 Supercar meeting, the official practice on Friday saw Lockie top the timesheets by the smallest of margins a mere 0.01 sec from hometown favorite Hayden Cooper.   Qualifying on Saturday morning was very tight with Cooper several tenths up on Lockie who ended the session as second fastest of the national class competitors.   A moments confusion during the closing seconds of the qualifying session saw Lockie take an extra lap much to the displeasure of the CAMS Clerk of Course, the resulting penalty being demotion to the rear of the grid and a $250 fine.   

Starting from the back of the grid,  Race 1 was a bruising affair which saw Lockie on the receiving end of several aggressive blocking moves as he challenged for the lead.   Several heart stopping touches at 200+ kph resulted in wheel rubs on the side pods of Lockie's car.  Things came to a head with Lockie's front wing being knocked askew which greatly affected the handling of his car and he was quickly overtaken by Cooper.  Despite the damage,  Lockie was able to adapt to the under-steer and hold onto 3rd place at  the close of the 16 lap race.

Race 2 was again a spirited affair with close wheel to wheel racing around the 3.1km circuit.  Mid way through the race Lockie was very lucky to miss a spinning car as it speared  back onto the track in front of him causing Lockie to himself run wide and spin at speed along the back straight of the circuit.  Fortunately Lockie was able to gather up the car performing  a high speed pirouette and continuing along the straight undeterred.   Crossing the line in second place in the national class was a great relief especially after his high speed moment on the back straight.

 Race 3, the main event, was uneventful compared to the earlier two races with Lockie starting a row behind his main rival Cooper.  The 24 lap race unfolded as a chase from the start with Lockie pressing the Queenslander although was never in a position to make a safe passing attempt  so he had to settle for 2nd in the race which gave him an overall second for the meeting in the National class.   The win secured the Forpark National class championship for Cooper with a round to spare.    Lockie was very happy with the result and commented "racing with Hayden has been close, he's a very good driver and I'm sure it would have been a ripper championship if I'd been in for the first few  rounds".  

Joining Lockie for the first time was Formula 3 engineer Chris Doumbos who's input was very helpful.  Chris worked closely with Lockie on data analysis and also provided valuable input on changes to car setup through the course of the weekend.   We would also like to thank Brad Jones Racing for their help on the weekend.

INSPIRED BY ZAIDEE

Lockie Marshall is pleased to announce the he has been appointed as a "Young Ambassador" for the Zaidees's Rainbow Foundation, an organization

inspired by young  Zaidee Turner, who suffered a rare fatal brain annurism at 7 years of age.    In accordance with Zadiee's wishes her family ensured that Zaidee's tragic passing bought new hope to 12 other children who were awaiting critical organ and tissue transplants.    So from the tradegy of Zaidee's death, the Zaidee's Rainbow Foundation was born and has now grown to an Australia wide organization which promotes organ donation awareness and education programs.   In working with the Zaidee's Rainbow Foundation Lockie joins the ranks of many well know sporting identities and teams that offer their own support in promoting the goals of the Foundation.  "Its so important for Australian families to have a discussion about organ donation" said Allan Turner the Foundation's CEO, "so many families are first asked to consider the donation of a loved ones organ or tissue whilst  coming to terms with an unexpected death due to trauma or sudden illness".  "For many this is overwhelming and has contributed to a less than 0.0015%  percent donation rate in Australia".  This figure is very low compared to other countries and is the main reason for the long waiting lists for organ transplants in Australia.   Sometimes sadly, the waiting lists are too long for thoes awaiting a life saving organ transplant.

Eyecatching rainbow coulored shoelaces are the trademark of the the Zaidee's foundation  and can be seen on the  boots of ALF greats like Luke Hodge,  and his fellow Hawthorn teammates as well as may other NRL, Netball and mens and womens basketball teams.

The symbol of a rainbow is representative of hope. After every storm, the sun shines and a rainbow appears.  For those people on the transplant waiting list, the rainbow symbol offers them hope.  At the end of their rainbow is an organ or tissue to improve their life, or in most cases, save their life.

Lockie will be helping the Foundation by displaying some Zaidee's Rainbow foundation Logos on the rear wing of his Formula 3 racer and will be helping with a  presentation on organ donation awareness at his school Breamar College.   Lockie has also wear rainbow laces in this racing boots and will be encouraging his fellow F3 competirors to do likewise.

Lockie Marshall - The Fastest Schoolboy in Australia

Victorian VCE student Lockie Marshall is surely Australia's fastest schoolboy as he competed in the latest round of the Australian Formula 3 Championship recently at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney.    As a relative newcomer to Formula 3,  the fastest racing category in Australia, Lockie's first challenge was learning the Eastern Creek circuit layout in the two 30 minute practice sessions held on Friday.   

Things got serious in Saturday morning's Qualifying session with Lockie posting the third quickest time in the Forpark National class.  Whilst  the top three were split by only fractions of a second, they were all approximately 7 seconds inside the V8 Supercar lap record held by Mark Skaife.

  

Starting off the second row of the National class grid,  Race 1 was looking promising although a spin on lap 4 when challenging for the lead saw Lockie drop back to last position, an inevitable result  following such an error.   The only consolation being his race pace which saw him set the fastest lap in the race in his class.

Race 2 on Sunday morning was a challenging race with Lockie working his way through the National class field and eventually taking the chequered flag after a closely  fought 10 lap race.   Unfortunately Lockie was penalised 30 seconds for making contact with another competitor and was relegated to last place.  Again the fastest race lap was the silver lining to an otherwise dark cloud.

As Race 3  the feature race approached, Lockie re-focussed and despite starting from near the back of the grid he made a textbook start with very little wheel-spin to be in 2nd place going into turn 1.   As the 15 lap race wore on Lockie swapped positions with leader Hayden Cooper although by the final lap, Cooper was in front and took the win with Lockie coming 2nd in the national class.    

In a post race interview Lockie said " It's been a challenging weekend but I've learned a lot and I'm very happy to be on the podium".  Lockie went on to say " I'm looking forward to racing at Queensland Raceway next month.  It's Hayden and Ben's home track so they will be quick and I'm going to have to give it everything I've got".

Lockie Marshall's Debut Australian Formula 3 Championship Race

Victorian teenager Lockie Marshall faced up to the biggest challenge of his motor racing career as  he lined up for the 4th Round of the Australian Formula 3 Championship at  Hidden Valley Raceway,  Darwin on the weekend.    Before a crowd of more than 50,000 spectators and the full contingent of V8 Supercar Teams,  the teenager from Woodend had his first taste of the pressure of high level motorsport  competition.    The 2.9 km circuit features the longest  straight of all the Australian circuits with the F3 cars reaching speeds of about  230 kph  prior to negotiating  turn 1, a tightening  left hand hairpin.   Friday practice saw Marshall top the time sheets in the National Class in practice session 1.    Marshall was upbeat after the session saying “I'm very happy with my speed and the set-up of the car”. 

                         

Practice session 2 was a different  story however,  with an electrical fault starting a small fire in the cockpit of his Dallara racing car on lap 3 forcing a hurried exit into pit lane and an exit from the car as the fire marshals quickly doused the flames.   Fortunately the damage to the car was minor and following repairs to the  wiring the car was prepared for the qualifying session on Saturday morning.   Despite the disadvantage of  having less practice time than his fellow competitors and being new to the circuit, Marshall was still able to post the 2nd fastest qualifying time in the National Class.  

As the field lined up for the first of 3 races on  Saturday afternoon,  Marshall knew that staying out of trouble  at turn one was his number one priority.    As  luck would have it Marshall was able to get around  the chaos caused by one of the lead cars spinning in turn one which resulted in him dropping a couple of places as he had to run wide to avoid a stationary car.  Marshall put his head down and over the next few laps proceeded to make up the lost places and by the end of the 12 lap race had worked his way up to first place in the National class.  

Race 2 on Sunday morning saw a clean start however  a  small error resulted in  Marshall loosing a place and eventually finished in 2nd place in his class.  

Race 3 was the feature race and saw  Marshall starting off  pole on the National class grid beside Queenslander  Ben Gersekowski.   A determined drive from Marshall saw him take the  lead in the National class and hold it for the 15 laps to take  the win and deliver an overall first place for the race meeting.   Commenting after the final race Marshall said " my times were very consistent over the length of the race and my race with one of the Championship class cars helped me draw away from the rest of the National class runners.  Its been a great opportunity to race against  some top drivers and I've learnt such a lot".

For his debut Formula 3 race it was a great result and all the more satisfying as he was presented his winning trophy by former Australian F1 world Champion Alan Jones.

Young Victorian racer Lockie Marshall is pleased to announce a deal that will see his Dallara F3 open wheeler carry the colours and Logos of LORD Corporation.   The partnership will see Lockie provide media exposure for LORD who supply structural adhesives to the Australian and international markets.

Lockie’s 2012 racing program has been somewhat interrupted with a broken wrist a week or so before Clipsal putting paid to the first three races of the year.  “My focus is now on getting fit and ready for round 4 which will be at the V8 round in Darwin” Lockie said.  “I can’t wait to get the plaster off so I can get into the simulator and start getting a feel for the Hidden Valley circuit.”   I would like to do at least one more test day before my first race.
